Black Oak Natural Edge Bowl (5") #22

$85.00

This sturdy Black Oak bowl has a natural edge and some beautiful spalted grain. The natural “live” edge uses the curvature of the tree exterior as the lip of the bowl.

Size: 2 1/4” tall by 4 7/8” wide

Wood: Coastal Black Oak. This wood has the natural bark still on the edges, so if you turned the bowl sideways, you can imagine how the bowl was cut from the tree. Finished with food-safe linseed oil and beeswax.

Source: This Black Oak is from the California’s North Coast, along the Mad River in Humboldt County. Winter has been rough the last few years, and many older oaks fell, leaving plenty of material to use for bowls and slabs.

Use: Great for holding dry food such as crackers, nuts, or your favorite snacks!

Care & Maintenance: Note: the bark is somewhat fragile, so while this bowl is made to use, avoid submerging in water or running under a stream of water, as this could loosen the bark. Wipe with damp cloth, then dry immediately. When bowl feels dry or looses luster, rub with mineral oil (butcher block oil), pure food-grade linseed or tung oil. It’s okay to lightly sand with 600 grit paper if the grain feels fuzzy after many washes. Oil frequently to maintain sheen. The more you use it, the better the patina!
